Wire Hole Drilling

Precision small-diameter deep-hole drilling for accurate, straight bores in aerospace and high-performance components.

American Drilling Company provides wire hole drilling services for applications requiring long, straight, small-diameter holes with tight positional control. This capability complements our gundrilling operations and supports components where conventional drilling methods are not sufficient to maintain accuracy over extended depths.

Common Applications

  • Fastener drilling for NAS, AN, MS, and Boeing parts
  • Screws, fittings, and nuts
  • Jet engine fasteners supporting programs such as Pratt & Whitney, GE, and Rolls Royce
  • 12-point and spline bolts
  • Hex corner holes
  • Cotter pin holes

Technical Range

Our wire hole drilling capabilities support small-diameter deep-hole requirements where straightness, concentricity, and surface condition are critical to part performance.

  • Safety-wire / lockwire hole drilling for aerospace hardware
  • Cotter pin hole drilling
  • Support for fasteners and precision hardware, including NAS/AN/MS and Boeing part families
  • Capability to process a broad range of materials, including: Inconel, Waspalloy, A-286, Titanium 6-4, MP35N, 4130, 8740, 15-5PH, PH13-8MO, Rene 41, H-11, S-7, 440C (and others)
  • Quality system per MIL-I-45208
  • Calibration system per MIL-STD-45662
  • Lead time on most jobs is less than one week

OnSite Equipment

ADC’s wire hole drilling department is supported by 200+ custom-built drilling machines dedicated to safety-wire/lockwire/cotter-pin applications, enabling efficient processing across a broad mix of aerospace hardware.

This capability operates alongside ADC’s broader machining footprint and supports integrated workflows when wire hole drilling is required in combination with CNC turning/milling, gundrilling, or honing operations.
